Welcome, to our site! After living for some time in Israel and then in the UK we've now moved to Germany. We'd like to share our experiences with you. We hope you have as much fun reading as we have writing.

December 2021

Home away from home…

It is strange… I love living in Germany, and I feel very much at home in Erlangen and Nuremberg. And while there I never really thought I missed Tel Aviv that much. Of course we think about it, about the weather, the food…but we’ve had nice weather in Germany, and I actually love it that we have a proper winter there. And the food may be different, but it’s very good there too. However, from the moment I knew we’d be going to Israel again, it’s just been taking too long! And the moment we arrived and walked outside toward our rental car, it was as if my whole body took a deep breath. And I do really mean my whole body, as if every cell in my body expanded for moment and then realigned itself to fit the Israel-me.
Some of it is obvious: the weather, even though we’ve had some rain; or the food, even though we haven’t been to most of our favourite places yet. Other things are a little less obvious: the straightforwardness of the people; the chaos in the city; and seeing all the familiar places again (we’ve walked into places and actually recognised people!)

We’ve spent the first days in Tel Aviv. The weather hasn’t been optimal, cause we’ve had some rain, but that’s to be expected this time of year. We were lucky enough to choose to go to Caesarea yesterday, where we had a nice sunny day, whereas Tel Aviv saw quite a bit of rain. Caesarea was especially nice because the strong wind created huge waves to crash against parts of the old harbour. A beautiful sight!
Tomorrow we will probably head to Jaffa, see the sights and eat some hummus. Maybe walk around Neve Tzedek in the afternoon. Then on Wednesday we’ll drive to Eilat, probably stopping at Ein Avedat for a walk and Mitzpe Ramon for lunch. In Eilat there’s a conference that Emanuël will attend, while I enjoy Eilat. After the conference we’ll be driving to the Dead Sea and Masada and the following day we’ll be in Jerusalem. We’ll end our stay in Israel with a few more days Tel Aviv.

So, good to be back, visiting the familiar places and just really enjoying Israel!
